The Importance of Balance

Yesterday, as I was reading www.Quora.com I noticed a question asking how important balance is to our lives.  It reminded me of a note Dr. Ray Ernst wrote me which I now share with you.

“Dean: Balance!  I have a magnet on my fridge door with the word “balance.”  It is a daily reminder for me.  Balance is the key to successful living.  I often remind loved ones to keep balanced and centered the physical body, the emotional body and the mental body.  All grow by “taking.”  The physical body takes in food, the emotional body takes in comfort and the mental body takes in information.  But, let us not forget the “spiritual body.”  The spiritual body grows by giving – giving of the physical energy to others, giving of the emotional caring to others and giving of the mental energy to others in the form of guidance.  Truly, as we sow, we reap.  We need to maintain our balance physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Each person must determine for himself where that balance is!”

Dr Wayne Dyer said life was about balancing your habits with your desires.  You are an engine of creativity and when your habits hinder the realization of your desires you are out of balance.  To provide some guidelines let’s look in Dr. Dyer’s book “Being in Balance.” Here are 9 principles (food for thought) to help you maintain the balance in your life.  First, nurture your highest visions, your dreams and your intentions.  They become your reality.  Second, balance your work and free time.  Don’t become a workaholic and miss life.  Third, guard your integrity – don’t lose your self-respect.  Fourth, take control of your addictive tendencies or they will control you.  Fifth, Dr. Dyer said, “You’re not what you eat; you’re what you believe about what you eat.”  Sixth, you attract what you are.  You cannot attract light by living in darkness.  Seventh, “To see and listen to the wicked is already the beginning of wickedness.” -Confucius.  What are you feeding your mind 24 hours a day?  Eighth, are you searching out there for what can only be found within your soul?  Dr. Dyer wrote about it this way, “Love is what’s left over when falling in love fades away.”  Ninth, aim for heaven on earth.  “Life in the world and life in the spirit are not incompatible.” – The Upanishads.
