The Power of Your Focus

You are what you think.  What you focus on is what you attract into your life.  Do you want to be happy, peaceful and successful?  You live in a world created by your mind.  You see reality as you are, not as it actually is.  You define reality by the way you define yourself.

The secret to happiness is controlling what you focus on.  By focus I mean the thoughts, feelings, emotions and visualizations (internal representations) you allow your mind to make and dwell on.  It doesn’t work to focus on what you don’t want, what you fear or what upsets you.  If you allow this to occur it will not only make you unhappy but will attract into your life the very things you want to avoid.  If you focus on pain, anger and fear your brain will work to intensify them and bring more of them into your life.  If your focus on selecting a mate is to avoid an alcoholic like one of your parents you will be attracted to an alcoholic.  Your brain is always working to manifest what you focus on.  The key is to always focus on what you want and be moving toward it.

It is better yet to expand your focus past your mind and onto your soul.  If your focus is only on your mind your map of reality will be limited and you will never discover your true Self.  To gain a divine perspective and discover the real You, you must focus on your soul.  Meditation is the best method for accomplishing this.  In meditation you will learn the universe is guided by intelligence and you can be guided by a force greater than yourself too, if you choose to listen!  But regardless, the universe supports your beliefs about yourself be they good or bad.  If you focus on failure you will fail.  If you focus on success you will succeed.

I found your comment “you are what you think” very thought provoking. Sometimes I found myself being a totally different person daily. It may be the many hats I wear in a day or month or year. My life has been full of so many blessings and they have all come during different periods of my life. I knew I was being called into ministry so I invisioned myself standing behind the pulpit of a small little church in Iowa. After the vision I prayed about it and decided to let God open the doors that would be necessary for me to attend seminary and become a pastor. When one lets go and allows a higher power to lead the way it is amazing what miracles happen.

You are right when you say that the secret to happiness is controlling what you focus on. When I am out calling on people who are going through grief or having a difficult time coming to grips with the path of life they are on, I always allow them to discuss or vent the grief or anger they are going through at the time. I call it venting to a safe person, one who will listen without judging and who will keep it confidential. Once they vent I try to help them find the positives that come from the difficulty. I want them to focus on the good things that is just ahead of them on the path of life. I want them to invision the positive and focus on seeing the road that lies ahead of them. Look for the rainbow after the storm and see themselves under the shadows of the rainbow.

We need to focus on positive thoughts of life, to do that we need our brains, hearts, and souls to work together as one. Meditation or quiet time alone to search our souls is a good way to focus on who we are and who we want to become. Through meditation we can concentrate on a wonderful and happy future as we continue the journey of life. When negative energy creeps into our life we need to prune it as quickly as possible and move towards the positive side of life again. Focus on success and you will find it. Be positive about all that life hands you, and know that your spirit guides will lead you into the path you are called to walk.
